Foxit Reader
Introduction
Foxit Reader is a very compact (only 1.5MB), feature rich, fast and reliable PDF reader for the Windows Platform (it supports Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003). Apart from all those, Foxit Reader features an annotation tool (which will allow you to put comments on a PDF document) as well as a text converter which will convert the contents of the PDF into a simple text file.
Foxit Reader Installation:
You can download the free version of Foxit Reader from the official website: http://www.foxitsoftware.com
The installation procedure is very simple; take a look at the steps below:
- Double click on the setup
- Click “Next” and then “I Agree”
- Click on the “Default : Use default settings for all configurations”
- Click “Install”
- Click “Finish”
You’re done; it’s time to have a look at what Foxit Reader can actually do.
How to use Foxit Reader:
You can launch Foxit Reader by opening the desktop shortcut or by going to:
Start->Programs->Foxit Reader->Foxit Reader
This is the main Foxit Reader window:

- You can open a PDF file by going to File->Open… As soon as you have done that, Foxit Reader will present you with the classic, familiar Windows File-Open dialog; all you have to do there is to locate the PDF file that you are interested in and click “Open”.
When you open a PDF file, this is what the Foxit Reader’s window looks like:

- The area to the left side (marked with number #1) includes an index of the PDF document’s contents. You can click on the [+] sign in order to unfold the detailed contents of each chapter.
- The area to the right side (marked with number #2) displays the actual content of the PDF document.
- You can use the buttons at the top and at the bottom of the Foxit window in order to zoom in/out, move forward/backward, change the display attributes, search for text, take a snapshot etc.
Conclusion
Foxit reader is a very good alternative to Adobe Acrobat reader. The main advantages it offers are a very small file size, high speed and ease of use. I really can’t think of a reason why you should not use Foxit reader; take some to play around with it and you will soon discover that it’s one of the best freeware utilities available out there.
